WhatsApp unveils new screen sharing feature- competes with Zoom, Google and Microsoft

A new screen-sharing capability for users has been launched by popular instant messaging software WhatsApp. This functionality suggests that WhatsApp will now compete with videoconferencing services like Google Meet, Microsoft Team, Apple’s FaceTime Time, and Zoom in addition to being intended to enhance the video conference experience within the app.

Users can share items like documents and images with this capability, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg revealed today. Additionally, they can use video calls to share their shopping cart with phone contacts. Users must click the Share icon to make the feature active. They will next decide whether to share the entire screen or a specific app at this time.

According to WhatsApp, the screen-sharing function will be available on Android, iOS, and Windows Desktop platforms. But the rollout will happen in stages. Therefore, some users might receive it earlier than others.

The software also introduced a Landscape option for video calls, allowing users to experience video calls in portrait format in a more natural way. In light of the fact that certain beta users had access to the screen-sharing capability in May 2023, it is important to note that it is not precisely a new feature.

People who installed the Android 2.23.11.1 update from the Google Play Store would receive it, according to WABetaInfo, a website devoted to learning about new WhatsApp features before they are released. This took place in May.

Teams frequently utilise screen-sharing to interact digitally. It will be fascinating to see how the Meta-owned product performs even though services like Google Meet and Teams already provide this function. After all, rather than being a productivity software, it is more of a consumer technology platform.

WhatsApp wants to maintain its competitiveness.

Numerous apps have flooded the digital market, so businesses are trying with new tactics to keep existing clients and draw in new ones. It’s hardly surprising that WhatsApp has been introducing a number of new features that give users new functionalities. It introduced several new security features four months ago with the goal of enhancing user privacy. They consist of extra notifications, invisible back-end checks, and automatically validated security codes.

Surprisingly, some of WhatsApp’s new capabilities are already available from rivals. The site launched a “polls” function in May that allows users to ask their connections for feedback on issues like their availability. Telegram offered a comparable service. Recently, WhatsApp users were able to share documents with captions, a feature that Slack already provides.
