I slept under the bridge many times before I blew up- Oxlade

Ikuforiji Olaitan Abdulrahman, better known by his stage name Oxlade, a Nigerian artist, has described how he spent some time sleeping under a bridge after evading his family to pursue his music career.

He claimed that because his father, a lecturer, opposed his choice to pursue music, he had to flee and work multiple menial jobs to support himself.

The singer claimed that he occasionally sold BRT bus tickets and camped out at Ojuelegba Barrack Bridge.

On the Afrobeats podcast, hosted by Adesope Olajide, Oxlade made this disclosure.

“Back then, I occasionally used to sleep at Ojuelegba Barrack Bridge,” he recalled. I worked several low-paying jobs to get by. I was hawking BRT passes.

The performer added that composing classical music piqued his attention more than writing successful songs.

If you don’t take your time to write songs or produce anything else, it will seem hurried, according to Oxlade. Rushing in means rushing out.

“Classics, not hits, are what I’m looking for. Even if ‘Away’ is four or three years old, it continues to be popular. Even after a year, “Ku Lo Sa” is still relevant. “O2” suddenly became very popular last year. Despite being old, these songs are still relevant today.

“I don’t want to name names, but I am aware of many musicians who released songs last year that became viral but are no longer around. I’m not aiming to impress; instead, I want to leave you with a lasting impression.
