You have 48 hours to withdraw your ban on 25 media outlets- SERAP tells President Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has been given a 48-hour deadline by the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) to lift the ban on 25 media organizations from Aso Rock.

The Deputy Director of SERAP, Kolawole Oluwadare, made this announcement on Sunday. SERAP was responding to the accreditation of 25 journalists to cover the President’s activities being revoked.

The organization claims that Vanguard, Galaxy TV, Ben TV, MITV, ITV Abuja, PromptNews, ONTV, and Liberty are among the outlets that have been banned. SERAP urged Tinubu to order the Presidential Villa’s employees to lift the ban in the presence of the public.

It said that Nigeria’s democracy is based on media freedom. For the sake of transparency and accountability, SERAP argued that the media’s restrictions must be lifted.

“We appreciate it if the suggested actions were carried out within 48 hours of receiving and/or publishing this letter.

“If we have not heard from you by then, SERAP shall consider appropriate legal actions to compel your government to comply with our request in the public interest,” it stated.
