Iyanya recounts ordeal of how he was broke and almost committed suicide

Iyanya Onoyom Mbuk, a well-known artist in Nigeria, has talked about how he was broke in 2020 which nearly led to suicide.

He claimed he lost his home and was living in a hotel at the time, but eventually found himself unable to pay the expenses.

At that time, his old management, Temple Management company, filed a lawsuit against him for allegedly “stealing” a corporate vehicle.

Iyanya opened up about how bad the situation was as a guest on the previous episode of the Tea With Tay podcast, which is hosted by the actor Temisan Emmanuel Ahwieh, A.K.A Taymesan.

“I had a legal battle going at the time; I didn’t do shows,” he claimed. I had no power to act. Knowing that you no longer perform, you must now rely on your savings. On the other hand, when you are popping, that influx [of money] is different, and how you spend differs from how you spend the money you saved. I consequently experienced it.

“It got to a stage, I began to explore the option of going for tours. For me, that was a chaotic time. Guess what, COVID-19 began two days after my most recent court appearance. I was pursued. I was in a hotel room. My home has vanished. I spent a very long period in the hotel. It got to the point where I was no longer able to pay the hotel expenses.

The hotel’s owner is such a kind person. I have never met such a human being with a kind heart. He let me remain there. Alaba is his name. He let me remain there for more than a year. There, COVID literally overtook me. Think about not performing shows. You go almost a year without traveling, there is no inflow, and you spend the entire year in court. Finally, it appears as though the court battle is coming to an end when the lockdown is lifted.

“I spent the entire lockdown at that hotel. I nearly took my own life. I was once halted by the manager. each of those things. Madness, man”.
