Kebbi state government swallowed 20 billion in just 100 days in office- PDP

In the last 100 days of its administration, the Kebbi State government has been charged with “wasting” N20 billion, according to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The charge was made in a statement by Alhaji Usman Bello-Suru, the State PDP Chairman, on Friday in Birnin Kebbi while discussing the All Progressives Congress (APC) government’s first 100 days in office.

The PDP claims that the administration spent N20 billion beautifying Birnin Kebbi despite significant issues in the entire state.

“People in the Zuru Emirate have been enduring impassable roads for a very long time; N7 billion would have been sufficient to address this issue.

When over 10,000 residents are dispersed and displaced due to banditry, Bello-Suru continued, “It is on record that the state governor spent close to N2 billion on domestic and international trips with no bearing on human development.”

Aside from that, he said that the government had wasted billions of naira on “white elephant projects centered in one local government area, Birnin Kebbi.”

The party charged incompetence, sharing “toxic” fertilizers with farmers, ignoring the health sector, and issuing pointless contracts.

It also criticized the decision to grant the N10 billion contract for the state secretariat project’s completion.

The PDP claims that the government ought to eliminate “poverty which is killing our people on a daily basis in every corner of the state” top priority.

Ahmed Idris, the governor’s chief press secretary, responded to the allegations by stating that they were entirely unfounded. He said that the PDP’s unease was only related to the degree of change the APC government had enacted during the previous 100 days.

“I want to reassure the public that many PDP members now support the policies and programs of the current administration in Kebbi in light of the governor’s efforts to promote development.

It is not a secret that certain PDP members publicly praised Gov. Nasir Idris for his accomplishments in a short amount of time. In fact, I noticed a lot of PDP members there for the 100-day anniversary celebration,” he continued.

Idris asked the PDP to work with the governor to advance the state’s development rather than making unfounded accusations. (NAN)
