By December 2023, Meta will discontinue the Facebook newsfeed option in several countries

In particular nations, Meta is removing Facebook’s News tab. Beginning in early December, it will take down the specialized section in the UK, France, and Germany.

News organizations can still post links, Reels, and other content to Facebook in those three countries, unlike in Canada where the firm has prohibited news content in protest of a regulation that would require it to pay publishers there. There shouldn’t be any difficulties for users in getting news material.

The adjustments are expected to take effect in early December and are part of an effort, according to Meta, to direct resources toward services and goods that users care more about.

According to Meta, it will uphold current Facebook News agreements with German, French, and UK publishers. But it won’t extend such agreements or sign any new ones in those nations. The business also said that it “does not currently expect to offer new Facebook products specifically for news publishers in the future.”

Meta claims that users are primarily focused on short-form videos, engaging with others, and learning about possibilities, interests, and passions because news information now makes up less than 3% of the content displayed in users’ Facebook feeds.
