Bayelsa Guber Election: APC members criticise Sylva for designating himself as campaign director

Some members of the Bayelsa State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, have criticized Chief Timipre Sylva for designating himself the Director General of the Campaign Council ahead of the November 11 gubernatorial election in the state.

The Bayelsa APC Integrity Group, which is made up of party stakeholders and chieftains, responded to the formation and inauguration of the campaign council by saying that the move confirmed their claim that Sylva was the party’s sole leader.

The group’s coordinator, Chief Ebipadeowei Oyinkuro, signed and forwarded a statement to Wakenews on Thursday, outlining its response.

The group regretted that, weeks before the upcoming election, all of that had vanished, recalling how, just a few years earlier, the APC not only had the support of the people of Bayelsa State but was also at the pinnacle of their popularity there.

“The party is deep in shreds and also displaying symptoms that it needs oxygen,” the statement stated. “It also appears to be going into war with its flanks wide open.

The first and greatest 11 well-liked and powerful party members in the state have all abandoned Chief Sylva, who might legitimately be referred to as one of them.

Sen. Douye Diri, the candidate of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, is publicly supported by numerous other party leaders who never intended to be dissidents from the start.

They are upset about Chief Sylva’s snobbery and the way he acts as though the APC in the state is a private enterprise.

“To them, his desire to become governor appears to be a birthright.” Nothing conveys the tale better than the fact that Chief Sylva is the Chairman of his own campaign and also a candidate for governor.

Joshua Macaiver, his running mate, is the co-chairman, and his relative Chief Dennis Otiotio, the state party chairman, is the alternate chairman. The majority of the remaining campaign council members are members of Sylva’s group.
