Supreme court did not validate Tinubu’s win- Datti Baba Ahmed

Contrary to popular opinion, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, the vice presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 election, has stated that the Supreme Court did not uphold Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s victory.

The former federal lawmaker claimed that the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) declaration of illegality was all that the Supreme Court had done.

This was said by Datti Baba-Ahmed during his guest appearance on Arise TV on Monday night, just hours after his boss, Peter Obi, briefed the media about the results of the post-election legal proceedings.

He declared that they did not recognize the Supreme Court’s decision as being constitutional and that they had rejected it.

In an attempt to overturn the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal’s decision, which confirmed INEC’s proclamation of Tinubu as the election winner, Peter Obi had gone to the highest court.

In this ruling, the Supreme Court upheld Tinubu’s legitimacy as the president, as declared by the PEPT.

“Let me quote you on this: Tinubu’s presidency was not upheld by the Supreme Court or the Court of Appeal. They only confirmed that INEC’s declaration was unlawful, Datti Baba-Ahmed stated on Arise TV.

“We rejected and did not accept the judgement as a valid judgement; we accepted the judgement because it was the last action that HE Peter Obi and I needed to take.”
