I was once rejected at a radio station because I rap in Yoruba- Reminisce

Remilekun Abdulkalid Safaru, better known by his stage as Reminisce, is an Indigenous rapper who remembers his “first major” rejection in the music business.

The “King Of Boys” actor claimed that his first significant rejection occurred when a radio station turned down his and singer 9ice’s CDs because they primarily sang Yoruba music.

In a recent interview with Zikoko, he revealed this.

Reminisce stated, “We went to a radio station on the Island to submit our music CDs for airplay, and the feedback we got was that we would never make it. That was my first major rejection.”

They argued that because 9ice sings Yoruba, he was singing like the Yoruba doctor Babalawo.

“Why am I rapping like a fool when I can’t even see Ruggedman?” asked the other person. He advised us both to turn around, find something to do with our life, and improve.

It was my very first significant rejection. Even though I’m sure 9ice hasn’t forgotten it, I will never forget it.
