Thousands welcome Governor Yusuf back to Kano state (Pictures)

Following the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s election victory, thousands of Kano people flocked to the streets to welcome him home.

The nonviolent celebration, which included a sea of red and white, the colors of Yusuf’s New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), is evidence of the satisfaction felt throughout the state after the court’s ruling upholding the governor’s election on March 18.

Remember that the Court of Appeal and the Kano State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal declared the election void. The All Progressives Congress’s (APC) Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna was proclaimed the legitimate governor by these verdicts. But on Friday, the Supreme Court in Abuja reversed both rulings in a stunning change of events.

As of the time this report was being filled, Governor Yusuf, his deputy, Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, members of the state Executive Council, and prominent figures from the NNPP who had come to Abuja to observe the Supreme Court verdict had made their way to Kano by road and were spotted celebrating.

NNPP members and supporters have already flocked to Chiromawa village, accessible from Abuja via Zaria Road. Thousands more have lined up along the streets that lead to Filin Mahaha, the location of the grand victory rally, where Governor Yusuf is scheduled to speak to the assembly.
