Omah Lay airs opinion about fans tagging his music as Afro-depression

Nigerian musician Stanley Omah Didia, better known by his stage name Omah Lay, has responded to admirers who have labeled his sound as “Afro-depression.”

The singer stated he doesn’t care what label his music receives as long as listeners love it in a recent interview with The Beat FM in London, United Kingdom.

He went on to say that he would never contest fan opinions.

“I just make my music how I want to make it,” remarked Omah Lay. I make every effort to avoid using titles and any other labels that the outside world tries to place on me. Because, as my guy used to say, “You can see clearly when the smoke clears.”

“Therefore, when you relate to those items [titles and tags], I simply create music, and as long as you like it, I don’t care who tags it or how you hear it. As long as you appreciate the music, I don’t mind if you think it’s Afro-depression. To it, some other people would dance.

“It’s art. That’s what I make and I just leave the world to enjoy how they want to enjoy it. The fans have their own opinions, I would never argue with that. If that’s how they enjoy it, that’s how they enjoy it.”
