Trouble for Aiyedatiwa as supporters of Akeredolu express their support for the former commissioner

Strong signs suggest that Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the governor of Ondo, may struggle to win the state’s upcoming election in November 2024.

Meanwhile, prominent All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmakers who remained faithful to the late governor Rotimi Akeredolu have announced their endorsement of Wale Akinterinwa, the former commissioner of finance.

Before his passing on December 27, 2023, Late Akeredolu “anointed him” as the state’s next governor, according to Akinterinwa.

Akinterinwa’s story was also supported by a high-ranking APC source.

“The bulk of those who worked with the late governor, Akeredolu, chose Akinteriwa, I can tell you with authority. Before he passed away, he had anointed him. Regretfully, the insider stated, “he was not strong enough to announce it publicly before he died.”

“The governor plans to run, but he will face strong opposition in the state, particularly from the supporters of the outgoing governor.”

More candidates are reportedly getting ready for the APC governorship primary contest in Ondo State, according to Wakenews Nigeria.

They include, among others, Chief Olusola Oke, a former APC candidate; Prof. Francis Faduyile; Oladunni Odu, a former State Government Secretary; Mayowa Akinfolarin, a former member of the House of Representatives; and Gbenga Edoema.

One of the candidates, Akinfolarin, claimed that he might be the one to enable Ondo State to have a person who would act as a mediator between the people and the government.

In the months leading up to the polls, Ondo State voters will have only a few months to form an opinion of Governor Aiyedatiwa, who assumed office following the demise of Akeredolu.
