The head of the Rivers APC, Rotimi Amaechi, advised his supporters to vote against Tinubu in the 2023 elections.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) chairman in Rivers State, Tony Okocha, has charged that the state’s former governor, Rotimi Amaechi, gave orders to his supporters to vote against President Bola Tinubu in the 2023 elections.

Okocha claims that Amaechi, a well-known party member and former minister of transportation, told his followers to vote against Tinubu during the election.

Expounding on Amaechi’s purported directive, the APC chairman in Rivers State asserted that personal grievances and a sense of conceit drove the former governor’s opposition to Tinubu.

In response to The Nation’s query about whether or not he had visited Amaechi since taking the helm of the state party, he made a statement.

“My answer is an emphatic no, I have not done that,” he said. We have the same culture despite not coming from the same village; we are both Ikwerre.

To be honest, things were really bad between us even before he decided to run for the party’s presidential nomination. It wasn’t because of our shared interests or wealth; rather, it was due of his authoritarian mindset, which turned the party into a social club.

The party wanted to withdraw from the races where we managed to register candidates, which was unfortunate. It is not about anything else but weakness.

The APC they saw yesterday is not the same as the one they are seeing today, so I have informed them that things will not be conducting business as usual. In every ward, we plan to take part in the election. We’ll compete, but we’ll compete to win.

“The relationship deteriorated to a breaking point during the presidential race because they believed that, as his former chief of staff, I ought to have backed my employer. However, I supported Asiwaju.

His issue is that he is so conceited, believes that everyone should serve his whims and desires, and lacks the time to listen to his supporters.

He urged his supporters to vote against Asiwaju once more. Given that there are people from his side on the caretaker committee, I didn’t bother to inquire about his standing in the party. Furthermore, it is utterly false to say that we are attempting to exclude his camp.
