Supreme court dismisses new court case against President Tinubu

A lawsuit to remove President Bola Tinubu from office and keep him from carrying out his duties has been dismissed by the Supreme Court.

The court found the lawsuit, which was brought by Ambrose Owuru, a candidate for president in 2019, to be “frivolous, irritating, and baseless.”

When Owuru’s attorney made his initial appearance in the case, he acknowledged that he didn’t know much about it, which led Justice John Okoro to doubt his ethics. The Court rejected the lawsuit after raising some unresolved issues regarding legal hierarchy and procedure, cautioning the attorney against taking similar pointless steps in the future.

Claiming to have won the 2019 election, Owuru maintained that Tinubu’s inauguration was illegal because of an ongoing lawsuit about the 2023 election. The Court did, however, note that his assertion of a 2019 victory lacked evidence and had no bearing on the 2023 election.

The judge issued a warning to the attorney, who stated he was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2018, telling him to quit risking his career by taking on pointless cases.

“Avoid repeating this kind of behavior in your professional life. If you do it again, you might not get as lucky as you did today, he warned.

The Federal High Court and the Court of Appeal both previously dismissed Owuru’s appeal, and the Supreme Court’s ruling is consistent with their rulings. Both judges declared the lawsuit to be without merit and fined Owuru for misusing the legal system.
