Grammy used Davido and other Nigerian singers for PR

Adesope Olajide, or Shopsydoo, is a British-Nigerian media figure who has accused the Grammy organizers of utilizing Nigerian artists for promotional purposes.

The Nigerian group that included Burna Boy, Davido, Ayra Starr, Asake, and Olamide was unsuccessful in any of the categories in which they were nominated at the 66th Grammy Awards on Sunday night, according to Wakenews Nigeria.

Shopsydoo responded through an Instagram live session, claiming that the Grammy is uninterested in African music. She emphasized that the Grammy band’s rendition of Fela Anikulapo-Kuti’s “Water”—which was played after Tyla, a South African singer, won the first-ever Best African Music Performance category—was sufficient evidence that the Grammy is ignorant of African music.

He asked musicians in Africa, particularly those in Nigeria, to abstain from Grammy awards.

“The band is playing Fela Anikulapo-Kuti’s ‘Water,’ while someone with a different ‘Water’ was working on the stage,” he remarked, referring to Tyla’s entry that had been declared the winner. The Grammys are a perfect example of an organization that lacks knowledge.

They are clueless and ignorant about our culture. Furthermore, we ought not to expend effort there. These jerks are playing Fela Anikulapo-Kuti’s “Water” in the background while awarding Tyla’s “Water” an award. Is that a company that comprehends us? Man, they don’t give a damn about us.
