Vandals destroys Tower in Abuja

Mass power supply adaptability and volume of power into Abuja has diminished by 250MW following obliteration of Pinnacle 70 along the Transmission Organization of Nigeria’s 330kV Gwagwalada-Katampe Transmission line in the Government Capital Region (FCT).

The Transmission Organization of Nigeria (TCN), which said the vandalized tower is presently standing problematically on the ground, uncovered that the episode happened on Monday, February 26, 2024, at around 11.32pm.

As indicated by an explanation endorsed by the TCN Head supervisor, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, on Wednesday, a duplicate of which was shipped off Initiative, at the expressed season of the episode, the Gwagwalada-Katampe Transmission line had stumbled at Gwagwalada Transmission Substation and preliminary reclosure by TCN Administrators fizzled, necessitating an actual watch of the line.

“The TCN lines and patrol team discovered that the four (4) tower footings of Tower 70 were vandalized, destroying the tower legs and causing the tower to stand on the ground, supported by conductors.

“The incident has reduced bulk power supply flexibility and the volume of power into Abuja by 250MW,” Mbah stated.

Meanwhile, TCN has mobilised to the site of the incident and has commenced an emergency repair of the damaged tower and its associated equipment.
