APC Chieftain moralises the upkeep of Pulaku Initiative

Chief Simon Shango who is a Chieftain for the All Progressive party has told the federal government to re-access the the Pulaku Initiative and to customize its approach to better suit the various needs of the communities it wants to assist.

Shango underlined the significance of reevaluating the initiative’s name, claiming that its existing relationship with Fulani traditions may impede its efficacy, particularly in places afflicted by long-standing conflicts over land resources.

Shango, speaking in Abuja, highlighted the difficulties of adopting the Pulaku Initiative without taking into account local sensitivities.

He recommended a rebranding method similar to Radio Nigeria’s approach under previous President Obasanjo, in which station names were adjusted to represent the distinct characteristics of each state. Shango underlined the importance of tailored housing options that respect the architectural and cultural history of recipient communities.

Shango emphasized the need to select beneficiaries using equitable criteria rather than political ones.

He advocated for the creation of grazing reserves distant from resettlement zones to reduce confrontations between herders and farmers.
