Ifeanyi Ubah says the South East Development Commission will put a stop to the Igbos' cry of marginalisation

Ifeanyi Ubah, Senator for Anambra South, has stated that the recently passed South East Development Commission Bill will alleviate the Igbo’s sense of marginalization.

Ubah, in a signed press statement made available to a source in Awka, Anambra State’s capital, commended the Senate for adopting the bill, stating that it is a critical step towards addressing Ndigbo’s demands.

Ubah proposed the measure to the present 10th Senate, and it passed its first reading on Wednesday, October 4, 2023.

Ifeanyi Ubah applauded the senate for working rigorously to make sure the bill process was not stopped after it was read first and for working hard to ensure its delivery.

He said: “I appreciation the Senate on behalf of the South East Senators and Honourable Members. The South East Development Commission Bill is important in addressing the developmental challenges faced by the South East region of Nigeria.

“I emphasize the need for targeted interventions to promote economic growth, infrastructure development, and social welfare in the region.”

He reiterated that the Commission would not only end the South East’s perceived marginalization, but would also, once signed into law, allow the zone to directly benefit from Federal Government intervention programs currently enjoyed by other zones such as the South-South and North East through the Niger Delta Development Commission and North East Development Commission, respectively.

He stated that the Federal Government is committed to the development of all regions of the country, and he is confident that once signed into law, the Senate will prioritise the bill’s implementation by ensuring that the Commission is effectively established and empowered to carry out its mandate.
