Ohanaeze begs Atiku to “retire from politics” and praises the G-5 for crushing his lifelong dream

Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the leading Igbo socio-cultural group, has urged Atiku Abubakar, the PDP’s presidential contender for 2023, to step out from politics.

Ohanaeze declared that Atiku’s long-held goal of becoming president has ended.

The group said this while praising Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory’s Minister, and the G-5 governors for crushing Atiku’s aspirations.

Atiku should step down from politics, according to a statement issued by Okechukwu Isiguzoro, the factional Secretary-General of Ohanaeze, because he ignored the zoning formula in the most recent presidential election.

He also praised Ayo Adebanjo, the chairman of Afenifere, and former president Olusegun Obasanjo for their support of Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP.

“We express our heartfelt gratitude to Pa Ayo Adebanjo-led Afenifere, Dr. Pogu Bitrus-led Middle Belt Forum, Pa Edwin-led Pan Niger Delta (PANDEF), and all others who stood firmly in support of Mr. Peter Obi,” a portion of the statement says. It is admirable how dedicated they have been to the cause.

“We especially thank the G5 Governors led by Nyesom Wike for their pivotal role in undermining Atiku Abubakar’s and the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) aspirations.

“The long-held goal of former vice president Atiku Abubakar to become president has come to an end.

“Now is the right time for him to step down from active politics, understanding that his advanced age demands this sacrifice to save the PDP, which he undermined both internally in 2023 by disobeying the zoning formula that benefited the Southeast and the Igbo people, and externally in 2015 by siding with the APC to remove Jonathan.”
