Buguard raises $500k seed funds to expand operations

The cybersecurity company Buguard, based in Cairo, has announced a $500,000 seed round of funding. The funding will aid in the growth of the team, with an emphasis on channel, sales, and product collaborations. A15, a well-known MENA venture capital firm and one of the most well-known investors in early-stage firms served as the round’s lead investor. Additionally, a few angel investors contributed to the funding.

Buguard specializes in offensive security services like threat intelligence, red teaming, phishing simulation, vulnerability assessment, and compromise simulation. It should be noted that this is the first outside funding for Buguard. The offensive security and dark web monitoring business has operated on its own dime since it was founded in 2021.

Youseff Mohamed, the company’s founder and chief technology officer, expressed his happiness over the fundraiser and thanked A15 for their support of his business. “Our team members are specially selected and includes some of the best security researchers and engineers on earth,” he revealed.

He added that although Buguard already had customers throughout the world, the company’s most urgent goal was to increase its operations in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, and Oman make up the GCC. “We want to expand operations into Saudi Arabia this year and using our resources to help fulfil our crucial growth potential,” he said.

After operations began, Buguard collaborated with numerous organizations located in Egypt, including Paymob, Fawry, EFG-Hermes, Halan, Lucky, Thndr, and MaxAB. The business also has a sizable clientele worldwide and provides services to businesses in the US, Saudi Arabia, France, Australia, Japan, the UK, Singapore, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Dark Atlas has been launched by Buguard for monitoring the dark web.

In addition to raising money, Buguard announced Dark Atlas, a brand-new SaaS solution. Monitoring the dark web and preventing account takeovers will be done with Dark Atlas.

For perspective, let’s say that the dark web consists of pages that are concealed and accessible only through specialized web browsers. The dark web aids investigative journalists in maintaining their anonymity, however, it is primarily utilized by criminals for illegal acts including the trafficking of human beings and organs.

Additionally, cybercriminals utilize the dark web to disseminate malware that gives them access to potential victims’ personal information. Attacks by malware frequently result in monetary losses, harm to one’s reputation, etc.

In addition to keeping track of the dark web and preventing account takeovers, Dark Atlas assists clients by keeping track of vendor and third-party threats and executive-level personal emails.
