In light of the economic realities, President Tinubu defends his choice to appoint 47 ministers

Amidst economic hardships, President Bola Tinubu has steadfastly maintained his appointment of 47 ministers.

The president defended the size of the cabinet by claiming that it represents the variety of positions needed to operate a successful government.

President Tinubu expressed skepticism about cutting his cabinet size during a meeting with a group from the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), claiming that doing so might not ensure better performance.

He maintained that having too many ministries together could prevent performance and make it more difficult to get outcomes.

The President responded to worries about the country’s economic difficulties while also acknowledging the accusations leveled at the heavily staffed cabinet.

Tinubu highlighted that good governance requires government employees to be efficient, mobile, and resourceful and that managing workloads is a necessary component of these qualities.

During their terms, past presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, Goodluck Jonathan, Umaru Yar’Adua, and Muhammadu Buhari all had smaller cabinets than President Tinubu, who appointed 48 ministers—the most since Nigeria’s 24-year return to democracy.

“Nigeria needs to turn the corner to grow, and we must give people challenges they can handle, and that is what we are doing,” he said in defense of the action.

The President emphasized the value of religious leaders in building harmony and peace, and he called on the Christian leadership to help spread tolerance and hope among Nigerians.

Notwithstanding the country’s economic difficulties, Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s pledge to combat corruption and other vices to improve the prosperity of all Nigerians.
