Kwankwaso makes a hint at defecting and wants an APC presidential ticket in 2027

By declaring his candidature for president in 2027, former governor of Kano State Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has sparked speculation about his possible departure from the opposition New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP).

Kwankwaso claims that Nigerians are not happy with President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, citing increased rates of poverty since Tinubu took office on May 29, 2023.

After speaking with President Tinubu, Kwankwaso called a meeting of his close allies, according to sources close to the former NNPP presidential candidate. He disclosed an invitation to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) at this encounter. The insider, who wished to remain anonymous, revealed that Kwankwaso promised his supporters he would continue to run for president in 2027 even if he joined the APC.

“After our visit with President Tinubu, we had a meeting with our leader. He asked for our thoughts on the invitation to join the APC, to which many of us objected. However, he took his time outlining the advantages of joining the governing party for us.

“However, the most memorable aspect of the conversation was when he informed us that he would have the chance to run for president in 2027. He made it quite apparent to us that he intended to run for president. I won’t reveal all of the grounds he offered us to believe he has a shot in 2027.
