Northern leaders not agreement with Tinubu’s policy, might not be voting him in 2027

Prominent factions in the Northern states have become divided over new Bola Tinubu administration policies, with some seeing them as harmful to the area.

The most recent example of this is the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) moving their main offices from Abuja to Lagos.

The Northern Elders Forum (NEF), which claims that the action has detrimental financial effects on the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the country, has become a prominent opponent of the proposal.

The President’s “sectional considerations,” according to spokeswoman Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, are to blame for his policies, which he claims “further impoverish the North” while prospering other regions. If Tinubu does not solve these issues, he threatens political repercussions in the 2027 elections.

He declared: “We are not a platform that denigrates or whitewashes any administration, even Tinubu’s. We have set a benchmark for judgment that we will not budge from, one that is defined by speaking truth to power and acting with accountability and respect towards leaders at all levels. When it comes to the well-being of all citizens, the unity and security of Nigeria, or the interests of the North, we won’t cut any corners.

It is our responsibility to remind President Tinubu that millions of homes are suffering from starvation as a result of his policies, many of which seem to further impoverish the North while benefitting other regions of the nation. Life is getting harder due to inflation, and businesses are closing, jobs are being lost, and infrastructure is deteriorating.

Not all Northern voices, though, agree with NEF’s position. Together with nineteen CSOs in the North, the Arewa Think Tank declared its support for Tinubu. The relocation’s importance was dismissed by Chief Convener Muhammad Alhaji Yakubu, who said that it was insignificant compared to problems like banditry and economic difficulties. He urged Northerners to put national interests first, criticizing them for concentrating on regional advantages made under earlier administrations.
