Ireti Kingibe, claims she has not received the "prayers" that Senate President Godswill Akpabio promised

Ireti Kingibe, a senator from the FCT and a member of the Labour Party (LP), claims she has not received the “prayers” that Senate President Godswill Akpabio promised. On Wednesday, she made this revelation in an interview with Politics Today on Channels TV.

No, in fact, I didn’t receive any prayers, but I will check my email to see whether any were sent.

“Honestly speaking, I have no idea what Mr Akpabio is talking about, although most people think it might be about allowances.

They might be legal obligations that would have been compensated everywhere. We weren’t intended to receive anything more, in my opinion. Still, I haven’t received anything personally.

Kingibe said that she feels uneasy but cannot do something about Nigerian senators being among the highest paid in the world and the expense of running the national legislature.

“That is true, but I am aware that there is nothing I can do to change it. Therefore, I run development programmes for the public out of a constituency office and a development office, and I’m hoping that any extra money I put in—any allowances—will go towards paying that office’s development programmes.

What they paid is very little and moreover, I’m still new as I just came into office. As I start seeing it, I will put a lot of it towards funding my office for the development programmes.”

Recall that Akpabio was heard saying in a viral video that senators had received a token to enjoy their holiday while adjourning plenary to September 26.

“A token has been sent to our various accounts by the Clerk of the National Assembly so we can all enjoy our holidays,” he stated.

After realising he was making the comment on live television, he recanted it.

“I take back that assertion. The Senate President has sent prayers to your mailboxes to help you travel safely and return, so you can enjoy your holiday.
