Leaders from the north applaud Tinubu over choice of ministers

President Bola Tinubu has received praise from the leaders of the North Central geopolitical zone for his “display of the spirit of fairness” in the choice of ministers.

The leaders urged Tinubu to appoint High Chief Moses Ayom as Ambassador-Designate to China. They were led by Bishop Alli John Alli and operated under the auspices of the League of Middle Belt Bishops.

Bishop Alli, who observed that Ayom was from Benue State, asked Sen. George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), and Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, the governor of Benue, to support the request for Avom’s nomination as ambassador to China in a letter to the Presidency on Monday.

The leaders stated that Ayom had an advantage over other candidates since he was the most competent in the letter, which was also copied to the North Central zone governors.

In addition to expressing trust in Ayom’s abilities, the leaders said that if given the chance, the former presidential candidate on the All Progressives Congress (APC) platform—who resigned in favor of Tinubu during the 2023 primary election—would fulfill the mandate.

They emphasized that Ayom’s commercial connections in China and the relationships he had developed with the Chinese government over the years would be used to promote Nigeria’s overall development in Asia.

The leaders, who suggested that the president looks for qualified individuals for ambassadorial positions, said that if Avom is chosen to represent China, he won’t let down the president or Nigerians in general. The group went on to say that in addition to Ayom’s commercial connections and experience in China, it was important to recognize his contributions to the APC and his country’s patriotism.

“We are here once again as an umbrella body of Middle Belt Bishops, to commend the President for his impartial appointments so far,” the leaders wrote in the letter headlined “Before it is too late.”

However, keep in mind that High Chief Moses Ayom, who led the Middle Belt presidential campaign, later gave up his aspiration and threw his support to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who is currently our president.

“In an act of extraordinary charity, he also gave President Tinubu his multibillion-naira property on Ahmadu Bello Way, widely known as “Heritage Africa,” which was used throughout the campaigns and is still being used today. This is a significant sacrifice that can only be made by a loyal, patriotic, and committed citizen.

“Ayom has demonstrated unwavering love and patriotism for this nation, as well as for the strong ties and mutual respect that have existed between the Middle Belt and Southwest since the reign of Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

“Chief Ayom also put his time, talents, and money into Tinubu and Alia’s campaigns, and by the grace of God, both are now serving as president and governor, respectively.

They said that because of his connections to China and all of Asia, Ayom should not be forgotten and instead be nominated as Nigeria’s designated ambassador to China or assigned to lead a government agency or parastatal.

“We think that this is the least that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Sen. George Akume, and Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia can do as a token of appreciation for Chief Moses’ enormous achievements.
