Yellow Card donates $3,000 to Web3Ladies to train more Nigerian women in blockchain technology

With the help of a $3,000 grant and a partnership with the Web3Ladies mentorship programme, the pan-African cryptocurrency exchange and financial technology business Yellow Card is empowering over 500 Nigerian women with critical tech and blockchain skills.

This partnership, which has its roots in Yellow Card’s Social Good programme, aims to advance financial independence and democratise access to technological resources throughout Africa.

The Web3Ladies mentorship programme is a thorough, three-month boot camp designed to develop the skills of designers, engineers, and managers for the blockchain sector while also giving them the tools and resources they will need to succeed once they have completed the programme.

Yellow Card is committed to removing barriers and providing more access to training and technological resources for the continent’s burgeoning youth, with a special focus on ladies. This dedication is highlighted by its choice to collaborate with Web3Ladies, a women-centric organisation.

In Sub-Saharan Africa, there will be 230 million occupations that require digital skills by 2030. However, according to UNESCO, just 30% of women in the region obtain STEM training, leaving even fewer with the fundamental digital skills required for the region’s modern employment. By educating young African talent to impact the future of the continent, Yellow Card’s Social Good Initiative aims to close the digital divide.

Chief Operating Officer of Yellow Card Jason Marshall underscored the organization’s commitment to impacting lives in Africa through collaborations and initiatives that support financial inclusion, innovation, and youth empowerment.

Through a number of collaborations and initiatives that prioritize financial inclusion, youth emancipation, education, and innovation, we are dedicated to assisting people on the African continent in improving their lives.

He emphasised the substantial barriers that women and girls experience in gaining access to technology and instruction in digital literacy, highlighting the choice to donate $3,000 to Web3Ladies for their mentorship programme. This is just one of several YC Social Good CSR programmes, Jason continued, “which promote inclusivity and financial freedom across the continent.

Only 15% of co-founders of tech startups in Nigeria are women, despite the country having a thriving entrepreneurial culture. According to a 2018 LongHash study, the percentage of female employees in 100 examined blockchain firms was just 14.5%.

While the digital landscape is vibrant and full of potential, gender inclusiveness continues to be a growth hindrance. The collaboration between Yellow Card and Web3Ladies is a concrete investment in the advancement of women, which they hope will soon benefit the African economy.

Yellow Card’s $3,000 grant was praised by Nkechi Enebeli, the associate programme manager for Web3Ladies, who recognised it as evidence of their dedication to corporate social responsibility. She emphasised the transformative potential of collaboration and emphasised that supporting women in IT is an investment in the future.

We are incredibly appreciative to Yellow Card for understanding our goal and lending a helping hand as we work to create a more equal tech ecosystem.

The three-month Web3Ladies mentorship programme is divided into four unique sections. Mentees take part in weekly workshops and live seminars throughout the programme, which is overseen by local mentors. Specific blockchain subjects are covered in workshops that are delivered by seasoned professionals and subject matter experts.

The programme seeks to offer graduates with necessary work tools including laptops, inverters, and MiFis in order to ensure their continuous success. There are currently more than 500 registered mentees and more than 200 applicants who have been accepted into the current cohort.

Yellow Card has made significant financial commitments to assist numerous programmes and initiatives since its launch in Nigeria in 2019. This support covers projects all around the African continent, not only in Nigeria.

Among other initiatives led by the company, the company’s philanthropic activities include Generation Empower (GenEm) in Tanzania, which aims to educate and empower young people, and a $5,000 contribution to the Purple Skills Klinic Foundation, which aims to empower young people in Uganda.
