INEC, PDP Ighodalo dragged to court over Edo primary Election

Philip Shaibu, the deputy governor of Edo State, has taken Asue Ighodalo and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to court over the outcome of the recently ended governorship primary election.

Shaibu’s complaint also names the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Recall that the PDP proclaimed Ighodalo, Governor Agodwin Obaseki’s favored candidate, as the election winner and the party’s governorship candidate in the upcoming election.

Shaibu, who was also declared the winner of a parallel governorship election held at his home, has now disagreed with Ighodalo’s victory.

Days after the primary election, Shaibu visited the PDP national secretariat in Abuja to request his certificate of return.

Shaibu claimed to be the PDP’s legitimate governorship candidate in the upcoming election.

Shaibu is seeking a court order to annul the election held in Benin’s Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, where Asue Ighodalo was declared the PDP’s gubernatorial candidate.

Meanwhile, the Edo State House of Assembly has begun impeachment proceedings against Shaibu.
